Business Development Manager
Location: COM DEV Europe, Aylesbury, U.K.
Purpose:
The company has established a position as a quality supplier to the global space market. It has a core ambition to grow in size and to do this requires an experienced Business Development Manager that can help to fulfill its ambitions. The primary role is to lead the Business Development activities within the European and Global Space market, which will entail visiting customer premises and determining possible opportunities for equipment supply to the major Primes. The role is responsible for the timely generation of proposals in response to Invitation to Tenders or Request for Quotations. The candidate will be expected to able to provide quality input as well as co-ordinating the input from other groups within the organisation. To fulfill this role it is expected that the candidate would have a broad technical knowledge although the main requirements will be for electronic hardware (DC and RF) and for instrument studies. Demonstrable proposal preparation experience within the space industry will be mandatory. The role will also involve liaison with the Companies parent group in Canada to ensure maximum communication of program opportunities for all sites.
An ancillary role will be to investigate the High Reliability Defence market for possible opportunities for their equipment.
The role reports to the Managing Director and will interact closely with the Technical Director and other Senior Management Members as well as Senior Members of the Companies customers’ organisation. So the confidence to present at Senior Levels is required along with significant commercial sense.
Essential Qualifications:
- Science/Engineering degree
- Relevant experience in the Space industry in a customer-facing role (Sales, Business Development, Bids, PM, Marketing). Experience of supporting Business Development activity, writing and compiling Technical, Financial and Managerial proposals for space equipments to the Primes and to ESA
- Experience of dealing with BNSC/DTI would be an advantage
- Strong communication and presentations skills. Knowledge of French would be advantageous (not essential). Good negotiator with knowledge of Space programmatic and quality requirements
- Knowledge of the High reliability Military market would be advantageous (not essential).
- The role requires short notice travel predominantly (but not limited) to Europe
- Being self motivated and with the ability to work under pressure in short timescales is essential
